On the path to pregnancy, many women encounter obstacles from the emotionally trying to the medically severe. But in spite of all of these, many women come out victorious bearing their babies with pride. One of such obstacles is uterine fibrosis. Uterine fibrosis is a common condition; it is a benign and non cancerous tumor which occurs outside the uterine wall. They vary in size (from the same size as a football down to the size of a peanut) and their symptoms are relative to these sizes. These symptoms include, but are not limited to, the following; abdominal pressure, discomfort, abdominal enlargement, frequent urination, back and leg pain, heavy bleeding, or heavy menstrual bleeding. They are also referred to as myomas, fibromyomas or leiomyomas. This article will look at 3 ways to combat uterine fibrosis.
#1 Medication…
The use of medications to cure uterine fibrosis is one of the more common approaches employed by a lot of women. This method is effective and has been lauded by many couples. Medications for uterine fibrosis include the following; Gonadotropin; which decreases the hormone level of estrogen and progesterone which are responsible for menstruation. Gonadotropin also causes the fibroids to shrink up. Progestin; released via an intrauterine device (IUD) aids the alleviation of heavy bleeding and pain. And Androgens; these are used to reduce the symptoms fibroids.
#2 Surgery…
The two most common surgical procedures performed to treat uterine fibroids are hysterectomy and a myomectomy. As usual they both come with advantages and disadvantages. The hysterectomy involves the removal of the uterus. That would make it an absolute cure for uterine fibroids. That is the advantage. The disadvantage is that this makes it impossible for you to have any children in future. Where myomectomy is concerned, only the fibroids are removed. This allows the uterus to remain intact in cases there is a need for childbearing in future. That is the advantage. The disadvantage is that the uterine fibroids could reoccur.
#3 Additional Treatments…
Other treatments are available that can cure uterine fibroids including, but not limited to, the following; uterine artery embolization which is a procedure performed by an interventional radiologist and Endometrial ablation which is a process that is performed to stop the bleeding.
What are fibroid tumors? Fibroid tumors are solid growths composed of fibrous tissue, most commonly found in the uterus or breasts of women, known as uterine tumors or fibroid breast tumors respectively. Both breast and uterine tumors are fairly common in menstruating women, and are usually benign.
